About Art Towne
Alan Brooks was born and raised in Wichita, Kansas. Growing up in the Air Capital of the World, he spent his youth watching and studying airplanes. This firsthand experience led Alan to develop a love of aviation that influences his artwork today and led to a long career as a corporate pilot.
While Alan’s professional background is in aviation, he has always been interested in drawing and painting. He has devoted much attention to the techniques of artists he admires from past and present generations of traditional painters. The love of history and historical events consumes much of his free time, as he is constantly researching new ideas for paintings. A realist at heart, his paintings reflect his love for aviation, maritime, animal, and landscape scenes. Primarily a self-taught artist, he developed his own style, combining technical accuracy and realism with imagination, to develop an atmosphere that is intriguing to the viewer, and does justice to the aircraft and maritime vessels that he depicts.
Alan’s art education includes workshops with nationally recognized artists; Keith Ferris, Phil Starke, and JD Hillberry. He knew at a young age that he was a gifted artist, as he was frequently asked to draw or paint for friends, family, and occasionally businesses in need of a mural. While in the sixth grade, one of Alan’s drawings was selected as cover art for an invitation that was to be sent to the Governor of Kansas.
Alan is an award winning artist, and a member of the American Society of Aviation Artists (ASAA), and the Kansas Academy of Oil Painters (KAOP). Today you will find his paintings as far away as Norway, England, Brazil, and in many private collections of pilots, sailors and art lovers all across America. Many of his paintings can be viewed on his fine art website. Alan’s artwork has been published in the Aero Brush Journal.
In 2014, Alan started teaching art classes on a part time basis to children, teens, and adults. As these classes grew in popularity, Alan and his wife, Tanya, found that more and more of their time was spent in this endeavor. In 2017, they opened Art Towne LLC., a fun and friendly studio where people of all art backgrounds and all skill levels could come and enjoy a few hours of artsy fun. Art Towne offers everything from children’s birthday/art parties to adult paint and sip classes in the evenings.
Alan’s wife, Tanya, continues to be his biggest supporter, best critic, and constant source of inspiration. Painting requires complete focus, and is very challenging, but there’s nothing else in the world he would rather do. Alan lives in Andover, Kansas with his wife Tanya, and their daughter, Josie.
